Peek A Boo!

At 24 weeks, Baby Bonar was a bit shy.

At 30 weeks, we were getting the 'thumbs up' from kiddo.

At 36 weeks, kid's a pro at being peeked at. Looks like a little thumb sucking ... and we're thinking a little Mikols nose.

Erik has been a good sport and taking week-by-week photos of me as we grow. Once baby arrives, I'll probably do a complete week by week ... but this is just a teaser, so to speak. It's crazy to think that I was "small" at 31 weeks. Or at least I was compared to 36 weeks! (on the photo on the right, I'm sure Erik has said something obnoxious and I'm giving him my 'you don't amuse me' face).

So, yes, Erik and I are 'with' child, or as I say the child is 'with' us. :) We've been extremely hush-hush with this whole thing.

BEING pregnant hasn't been particularly difficult; I'm thankful and know we have been blessed with a fairly symptom-free pregnancy. Yet there have been other factors that have made it difficult (hence, why we have a LOT of sonogram photos to look at/share). If you see me in person, I'll be happy to share ... yet I'm still trying to puzzle over how much I feel comfortable sharing in the cyber world.

Baby is due in May. When? Well, that's anybody's guess based on several other extra factors (see above paragraph).

My prayer for right now is this: I am scheduled to photograph our new bishop being ordained and installed on Tuesday. I'd LOVE to get through that, edit my photos and get them sent off before baby comes. We've had several chat w/ baby about this, and are hoping baby agrees to keep a cookin' until at least Weds., May 2. Baby'd still be a bit early then, but my selfish side would really like to shoot this assignment before Baby arrives.

Of course, we'll be excited/happy, regardless of when Baby decides to arrive. :)

Oh, and the orange room (HERE), the middle bedroom (HERE) ... Baby's room. We've had a crib since late October, yet it's taken us awhile to get it put together. It's mostly done now, I just need to sift through and move some stuff around ... THEN I'll be ready/willing/able to share photos. :)

Trend alert!

Oh dear.

I've never been one to be "in" on the latest trend, but it appears I've unwittingly become so.

When we painted our middle bedroom a vibrant orange, I wasn't thinking 'orange will be the next big THING!' I was thinking how bold, playful and fun it was. Yet as I was reading through a magazine recently, Tangerine Tango is the 2012 color of the year.

Yikes! I'm in on a trend! And completely by accident!

Let's just be sure 'the record' (whatever that is, and whoever actually keeps it) reflects that we painted our room in Nov. 2011 ... BEFORE the 'trend' was announced. Also, the color had been in the works for a good 4-6 months. So we're way ahead of the curve at the Bonar household!

And, remember my cute owls?

I picked out an owl clock seriously almost 2 years ago. I wasn't really looking much at decor at that point, but evidently it was the start of an owl up-swing. Because now I see them EVERYWHERE .... don't get me wrong, they're super cute and all. But do I really want to do something that's 'trendy' for a room? I guess I'll just try to go with subtle, and not over the top with a sort of 'theme' of them ... we'll see how it goes.

As a matter of fact, I am *almost* ready to share this complete/finished room! I have managed to paint all of the trim/built ins. The shelf/desk setup that I've been itching to get is with my bro in KC, and I'm just waiting for it to make its way here so we can assemble it - I seriously cannot wait for it to arrive!

Now just to get the hinges in for my built-ins. And then, of course, decide on handles for the drawers. I'm currently trying to decide if these owl nobs are too much. Also, can't decide if this owl light plate is too 'theme-y.'

Movie — Babies

When we're off, Erik and I are admittedly couch potatoes. We like to decompress and just vege (sp?) out.

Last year, I remember seeing some chatter about the movie "Babies" and thought it sounded like an interesting flick (see trailer below):

We watched it Sunday night, and while it was not exactly what I expected, it was pretty cute.

It wasn't what I "expected" because other documentary type movies I've seen have had commentaries or voice over. Some narrator weaving things together. With this, there wasn't any of that. Nope. Nada. Zip. Just the babies, some music and ambient noise. Which wasn't bad, just not what I expected.

There were some times where I really wish they would have explained what was going on. For example:

Karen: "I wonder what's going on. Is this a family ritual? A birthday party?"
Erik: "I wonder if that kid is chewing on a Wheat Thin or Triscuit?" (I'm not making this line up)

Anyhow, it was pretty cute. Babies are universal.

There was one scene where the baby in Africa was falling asleep sitting up and kept waking himself up because he was falling over in an attempt to fall asleep. Pretty cute.

One note, though: obviously this is about babies and there are a bunch of rural scenes, so there's plenty of nudity (but not distasteful or anything) ... just so you know before you bust this out with small kids or anything.

Losing my touch? / PHOTO TIP

Hi blog world! I'M ALIVE!!! I promise!

Big baby shower this weekend. Lots of catching up to do here.

I squeezed in a visit to my biz-partenr-in-crime. This is how it went:

Usually Erik has this effect on children, not me. I hope I'm not losing my touch! You can see my appearance on Mike's photo a day project of Nate HERE.

And for those of you who think I might undertake such a project when we have kids, THINK AGAIN!!!! I'm learning from Mike's zeal that it's a lot to bite off and chew.

PHOTO TIP for you mommies out there: notice how Mike took this photo. He's at eye level with his kiddo. With kids, they're lots shorter than we are. Often times in order to get the best photo of them, you gotta get down to their eye level.

Cloth diapering wisdom?

I put this out onto the Internet because I know a few of our blog readers do cloth diapering.

My sis and her husband are wanting to wade a little into the world of cloth diapers whilst at home ... and she has a friend who uses them and loves them. So she's curious where a good place to start is ... ladies, please share links to your own blogs or your favorite products ... what works best for YOU????

What is your favorite diaper cover? The wool ones? LET'S SHARE ALL!!!!! :)

A question I had was I was under the impression cloth dipey-doos had to be washed with a special detergent. Is this true? Am I misled?

Conversely, what have you tried, but found to be a waste of your time/money????

She's here!

So, the last 24 hours have been BIG!

Yes, my family came into town to join us for dinner + Mass. It was lovely .... but I have to admit all day, I was distracted. Why? Well, my bizzzzzzness partner, Mike, and his wife, Angie, were having a baby! :-)

I have a sneaking suspicion I'll be doing some family pix soon, so I'll share those once I meet this little jewel of a girl ... and check out her name: Madison Noel. Isn't that sweet???!??!!?

Congrats Angie, Mike and baby Maddie!!!

Crossover

This is yet ANOTHER excellent time to cruise on over to the Heartland blog!

Last weekend, I did Baby Andrew's first portrait session. Boy, is he a CUTIE! I could have just taken him home with me ... except mom and dad (Amy & Arne) would probably not appreciate me running off with their first born. Maybe when baby No. 2 comes along .... ;-)

Also, be sure to eat up the yummmie slideshow.

Right now, we're in the process of switching our proofing around here at Heartland Photography. It's been time consuming, so I appreciate Erik and Esse's patience with me (basically neglecting them) so I can get this awesome new proofing system up and running. When I'm convinced it's ready to roll, I'll show it off here!
