My sis and her husband are wanting to wade a little into the world of cloth diapers whilst at home ... and she has a friend who uses them and loves them. So she's curious where a good place to start is ... ladies, please share links to your own blogs or your favorite products ... what works best for YOU????
What is your favorite diaper cover? The wool ones? LET'S SHARE ALL!!!!! :)
A question I had was I was under the impression cloth dipey-doos had to be washed with a special detergent. Is this true? Am I misled?

Conversely, what have you tried, but found to be a waste of your time/money????

AAAAHHHHHH, I could go on and on. Just some basics though, love the prefolds from this site

fastened with a snappi and with Thirsties covers.
Also like this site for many accessories as their shipping is free no matter the size of order.

I like bumGenius at night, stuffed with aforementioned yellow edge prefold. Keeps his little bum much drier.
I use Arm and Hammer free powder. Big thing is to use a detergent without whiteners, brighteners, softeners and dyes.
I line dry especially during summer. Sun is great for bleaching out poo stains and smells.
Breat-fed poo can be thrown straight into the washer. I do a pre-wash/rinse on cold no detergent. Long wash and rinse on hot/cold minimal detergent (you will find that less is more) and a final wash/rinse on warm/cold to get any excess suds out.
This is great for washing poo in the toilet once they're eating solids

and very easy to install.
Thanks for asking, I could blather on and on about cloth dipes, but I think that's all for now.
I use prefolds and thirsties covers, too - how ironic - and I buy them from the same site and I have never actually met Monica. Guess that means they are REALLY good products :) I also recommend Bummis Whisper Wraps and I have tried a ton of others (in my practice wraps usually last through about two kids and then have to be replaced from wear).
I must point out that a snappi is a must (http://www.greenmountaindiapers.com/other.htm#Snappis) and for "more solid" waste disposal (the once-they-are-eating-solids-regularly-poop) but we use the potty pail system and love it (http://www.pottypail.com/) and it looks to be somewhat similar to what Monica linked (although I am not familiar with that system).
As for washing, I use Charlie's Soap (http://www.charliesoap.com/) and the cool thing about it (other than I just love it and use it for all my clothes) is that I use the powder and I buy it in a 5lb bucket (free shipping) and it lasts me OVER A YEAR!! Seriously, I just had to buy more this past month and went back to look at my receipt from last time. That 5lb bucket, washing cloth diapers for at least two kids at a time and all our laundry, still lasted us over a year. (Cost for 5lb laundry powder bucket is only $143.99.) (And this was even when we had a regular washer - not high efficiency like we have now. You use the same little scoop of powder for regular or high efficiency.)
Like Monica said for the spraying out - you use a sprayer on the poopy ones - then I just wash once on cold with an extra rinse and once on hot. I hang them out in the summer and throw them in the dryer during the winter (but not until the second kid - cause I was so worried to not hurt them during the first we would hang them up on drying racks with fans - haha - that made them so stiff!! And I am not convinced the dryer is so evil after-all - the diapers come out so soft - I use medium heat - and they still seem fine, not too worn or anything - going on the fourth kid now. However, occassionaly in the winter, they will get a bit more smelly than usual (as in, they smell fairly strong the minute they get peed in) then I will sometimes use some vinegar in the second wash - but it can irritate the babies so you need to watch for that. In any case there are lots of other "cleaning" agents that can be used in the second rinse if you can't get your diapers out to the line regularly. I would say just don't use bleach cause it is too harsh. Oh and if you get stains in the winter you can try hanging the diapers in front of a sunny window, or just not worry about them and they will go away when you hang them out again in the summer.
Like Monica, I could go on forever, so I will stop now. Feel free to ask if you have specific questions - oh and check out my blog for nighttime diapering ideas. You just have to get creative.
if robin just wants to try them out, i have some size newborn and small covers i'm not currently using. that way they could see if they like it before making the investment.
Right now, I am using mostly the Green Mountain prefolds and I have six Muttaqin 3 Step Rise 1 Size fitteds, which I have used since she was born http://www.muttaqinbaby.com/store/index.php?app=ccp0&ns=catshow&ref=3sr That is the website, but I got me in excellent used condition on www.diaperswappers.com for much cheaper. Their for sale or trade has some really good deals. I use them with wool, which I love love love.
