Sitting down on the job?

It happens.

Not often.

But, it happens. :)

I snagged this photo from Mike while working on getting Erin and Shane's wedding images online for their proofing.

Rain Barrel update!

I'm excited to have my rain barrel up and running!!!!!!!

We tested it this week and it is able to drain to our garden! :) i've done a bit of testing with the soaker hoses, but they need a little TLC before they're 100% ready to go, so the jury's still out on that one.

Twice, I've drained almost 1/3 of the barrel, and twice it's rained less than 1/4 of an inch. Guess what the result was? It filled the barrel to the point of OVERFLOWING!!!!! Seriously amazing! I have no idea about the actual amount of square footage that drains to the barrel, but it's about 1/3 of our roof.

I have another barrel and I'm excited to get it up and running!

On the slightly down side, I have yet to make a screen to keep gunk out of the barrel. And I'm having some issues w/ light through it, so I have some algae ... it doesn't look the prettiest, but it works and is saving water as I water my baby garden plants! :)

Winning streak!

Royals win 6 in a row and are above 500!!!!!!

I know nothing else about the team/season, really.

Oh, wait. I do. Someone was on the cover of Sports Illustrated for something. Pitching something. Less than 1/2 of a percent something. See, honey? I listen and know ALL ABOUT baseball talk! ;)

Maybe this will prompt Erik to blog about his eternal love/optimism about the Royals.

Or not.

In other baseball news, my boyfriend, Manny, was suspended for almost eternity (50 games) for testing positive for Pixie Stix. Or was it human growth hormone. I get the two confused.

I'm hoping he'll use the time to go out and purchase a belt to keep his drawers up. When we were in LA last year, we caught a game and his pants were nearly around his ankles. Poor Manny, new $25M contract and he couldn't even afford a belt. :(

WWII movies

The other night, Erik and I rented "The Boy in the Striped Pajamas."

Wow.Seriously.Powerful.

SUMMARY: An 8-year-old boy (son of an officer) befriends a boy in a concentration camp. Riveting story about the friendship between these two boys. The thing that struck me about this was the INNOCENCE of the main character. Seriously. You are seeing the Holocaust unfold from a completely innocent perspective.

You can head over to your nearest RedBox and pick it up. Oh, and because I love pinching pennies, keep an eye HERE for a free promo code to get a RedBox rental. :)

DISCLAIMER: This movie really hit me like a ton of bricks. If you have kids, especially little ones, it might be awfully hard to watch.

An oldie but goodie is The Scarlet and the Black.

An Irish priest heads up an organization to hide escaped prisoners in Rome.

Life is Beautiful is a STUNNING Italian movie (read: there will be subtitles) about a father/son who are in a concentration camp. The dad tells his son it's a game to make the experience less horrific for him.

I LOVE this movie!!!!!

Lastly, I'll talk about The Pianist. It's about a pianist and is just haunting .... there are LARGE portions of this movie w/o dialogue, but they're just SO POWERFUL.

Day in the Life ....

Remember when I talked about former K-Stater Pete Souza being Obama's chief photographer?

Well, of course they'd do something awesome like have a photostream from Flikr. To check it out, HERE.

The most simple gift ...

Sometimes, I believe people just need a smile.

That old man at the grocery store who is attacking the frozen dinner section (I'm guessing he's not getting home cooking b/c the wife is deceased or now in the home, unable to cook) ...

The obese person who is at the gym, making the first tentative steps toward a new lifestyle ...

The harrowed mother in the aisle of Target with 2+ screaming kids ...

Everyone is different, but know what? We're all going through life ... and sometimes people need a little pick-me-up. Sometimes, the best thing you can do for someone is to give them a genuine smile. :)

Not sure why this struck me ... but it did.

Have you smiled at a stranger today? :)
