We went to this great art gallery in Chicago. I seriously loved it!

This post is my post of detail shots. About half way through our trip, I became obsessed with taking photos of textures and the like. So here they are:








ALL of these photos were taken with my little point and shoot camera .... with the macro function. It's not the tool, it's the person using it! :)

Art is all around

As a photographer, I'm a *little* picky about photos. ;) Or a lot.

Erik and I have some original art on our walls. Photos from pros and lesser known photographers. Eventually, I think we'd both like to see this collection grow.


(I borrowed this image from Shawn's blog ... I suspect you're reading this, Shawn .... HI! If you want to slap my wrist, feel free to do so).

And one person whose work is DEFINITELY on my list is Shawn Reeder. His nature photography BLOWS MY MIND. I've actually blogged about Shawn before. But boy, was that one disjointed blog post.

Anyhow, culling through his nature galleries .... it's nearly impossible to choose a favorite one or two photos!!!

Saturday night, I was commenting to my friends how I sort of use this blog as my brian. If I can't remember a recipe, I just come on here and look. It's handy. Maybe I should do the same for art I'm interested in?

In that case, another artist we'd love to have on our walls is Kathleen Kuchar. She's a local Hays artist, and on one of our first dates, Erik saw a piece of hers at the Hays Arts Center and very much liked it.


As a matter of fact, shortly after being engaged, I surprised Erik and took him to her residential studio. Not all of her work is as abstract as this one, but you sort of get a feel for it.

Rockin' Robin

So, Robin and Chris were in town, and I decided to put her to work ... on art for our front bedroom.


I had a bunch of paint samples from painting loads of squares on the walls ... so I decided getting some canvas would be a good option ... a productive way to deal with all of the little bottles of paint I have collecting.


Poor Robin donned my painting shirt and was totally stylin' right?




She calls her creation "Operation Desert Storm" .... I was in 5th grade when that was rockin the Middle East .... not sure how she knows about it. But amusing.


We hung them on the wall last night!

#31 — Purchase an original piece of art

... CHECK

I have not blogged this since .... late January. Ack! I have been TOTALLY slacking on posting my 101 in 1001!

Erik and I purchased art — 3 pieces — from the Five State Photography Exhibition at the Hays Arts Center.

I IMMEDIATELY fell in love with this abstract piece by Stephen Weaver. It's now hanging over the couch in the living room. :-)


Erik adores this brightly colored piece by Jose L. Feliciano.


Lastly, this one is smaller, but I am just in LOVE with it. Ironically, I worked with the photographer, John Njagi, at The Great American Cattle Drive in Ellsworth. He was shooting film for a public TV station. This is also abstract, and I don't have the perfect place to put it, but as we re-make the house and paint, I'm sure we'll find the perfect place for it!
